General PE Class Guidelines

  1. Course Requirements/Expectations:

    1. Be prepared and on time to class on a daily basis.

    2. “Dress out” in proper attire on a daily basis.

    3. Participate to the best of your ability of a daily basis.

    4. Demonstrate good conduct, a good attitude, and good sportsmanship on a daily basis.

  1. Proper Attire:

    1. All students are required to dress in the RHS PE uniform:

      1. Black shorts and  Gray T-Shirt (with student’s name, teacher & period printed on the front.

      2. Athletic shoes, sandals or slippers are NOT appropriate shoes.

    2. If the student fails to wear the appropriate PE attire, it will result into a “Non-suit” and loss of points.

    3. Note:If the purchase of the PE uniform is not an option or creates a hardship please see RHS PE staff

  1. Non-Suit Consequences/Policy:

    1. “NS” students will receive -10 points (reg days) -20 points (block days).

      1. Only one “NS” can be made up per grading period during Bulldog Connect.

    2. “NS” students may be given an alternative physical activity assignment at the teacher’s discretion.  

    3. Multiple “Non-suit” Policy

      1. @ 2 Parent contact & loss of points

      2. @ 3 Admin Referral, parent contact, loss of points

  1. Attendance:

    1. Students are expected to be in class on a daily basis.

    2. Non-suits, Unexcused absences or truancy will result in a loss of points and can not be made up.

    3. Students can make-up up to 3 excused absences per grading period for full credit after school during Bulldog Connect by signing in and participating.   After 3 make-ups, students may make-up an additional 3 absences for ½ credit.   

  1. Medical Excuses:

    1. If a student cannot participate due to health issues a doctor’s note will be required.  

    2. If a major injury or physical condition exists or occurs, check with the instructor to modify activities.  If an injury or physical condition does not allow for “modified” PE, the student may be required to transfer out of PE so that they may fulfill another elective requirement and re-attempt PE the following semester or year.

    3. If a student has a doctor’s note that requires more than a 2 week absence from physical activity, students will be put on an “independent study” assignment through Edgenuity (Lifetime Fitness).

  1. Fitness Requirement & Testing:

    1. Physical Education is 2 year requirement for all students at RHS.  Within that requirement are minimum California State Fitness Standards (SB601Calif Fitness Gram) that include:

    1. Timed Mile Run and/or Pacer Test

    2. Curl-up

    3. Push-up

    4. Trunk lift

    5. Flexibility test

    6. Body Composition

  1. Students MUST PASS 5 out of the 6 standards to satisfy the 2 year PE requirement.  All students will complete a Fall “pre-test” to determine current level of fitness (the results will be sent home for parent evaluation).  The actual California FitnessGram will be administered during our spring testing window.

  2. If a student misses and fails to make-up any portion of the California FitnessGram during the “Testing window” he/she will not satisfy the Physical Education requirement and will be required remain enrolled in PE until he/she satisfy the California Standards.

  1. Locker Room & Lockers:

    1. Students are not to share or borrow locks or lockers with another classmate.

    2. Small lockers are for PE clothes and large lockers are for street clothes during class time only.  Storing PE clothes in large lockers outside of class will result in your lock being cut at the student’s expense.    

    3. Do not bring valuable to school, RHS is not responsible for any stolen items.

    4. There is NO FOOD, DRINKS or GUM allowed in the locker room or any other PE facility.  (H20 is permitted and encouraged!)

    5. Students are responsible for keeping “their” area of the locker room clean and orderly.

    6. No Horseplay will be allowed

    7. Students are NOT allowed in the coaches’ office unless invited.

  1. Cell Phones

    1. Students should not bring their cell phones out to PE.  

      1. If a student is on their phone it will result in a loss of points.  

      2. Multiple cell phone infractions

        1. @ 3 Parent contact & loss of points

        2. @ 4 Admin Referral, parent contact, loss of points

  1. Grading & Grades

    1. Students will receive up to 10 points per day (up to 20 points on block) for being: on time, suiting up and participation & effort

    2. Total Points and points earned will be tallied and posted online every Friday or at the close of each week.

    3. Grades will be based on the following percentages:

      1. 60% on Suiting up & Participation & effort

      2. 20% on Edgenuity Health Course

      3. 20% on skills and development/written exams or other written assignments

      4. Citizenship Grade will be based on: class behavior, attitude and language
