I grew up in Vista with my 2 sisters and identical twin brother. I graduated from Rancho Buena Vista High School in 1995 and after a brief enrollment at Palomar Junior College I left for Humboldt State University to chase my dream of playing college football and to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree. I was given a preferred walk-on to the football team in 1997, eventually earning a roster spot. I played 4 years for the Lumberjacks and later received my B.A in History in 2001.

While attending Humboldt State I met my wife Amanda in the spring of 1998 and we were married in 2002. We have 2 amazing children Jade and Matthew.

I began working for Vista Unified School District in 2001 shortly after graduating from Humboldt State. I began my journey in education at Washington Middle School in Vista. It began as Campus Security and grew into Substitute Teaching, as a long-term substitute and as the on-site substitute. Amanda and I decided in 2005, after we relocated for Amanda's job, that I should stay at home and raise our children. A role I relished. It was probably the most difficult job I ever had, but those years will always be looked on as some of the best in my life.

I made my return to teaching in 2011 as a long term substitute at Grace Christian School in Escondido. My children attended the school and when a need arose in the middle school I stepped in and taught 7th and 8th grade Science. Shortly after the long term substitute job ended I was offered a full-time position teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade history in the middle school. While at Grace I was in charge of curriculum development for the middle school history department.

In 2017 I decided to go back and finish my teaching credential. I spent the spring of 2020 student teaching at Rancho Bernardo High School. I was in a special intervention position during the 2020-21 school year and I was hired to teach World History and US History for the 2021-22 and taught through the end of the 2023 school year.

I have been at Ramona High School since the 2023/24 school year.

I love to coach. I have been a football coach since 2001. My first coaching job was at Washington Middle School in Vista this led to a job coaching at my alma mater RBV were I coached from 2003-2008. I coached at Rancho Bernardo High School from 2011-2022. I last coached for Ramona High School during the 2023 season. I have chosen to not coach in 2024, so I can watch my son, who is a senior, play his last season of high school football.. I have always believed that coaching has to be more than just wins and losses. Teaching and coaching are about building relationships with my students/athletes and helping them to become better young men/women today, better fathers/mothers, husbands/wives, and employees/employers in the future.

On the football field I believe that fundamentals are key to player development, I stress technique at practice, in the process players learn skills to help achieve more on the field and in life. A few of these skills are accountability, work ethic, and being part of a team. They learn how to be a part of something that is bigger than them. I stress they are leaving a legacy for those who follow and ultimately they are role-models for children in our community.

Some of my other hobbies are working in the yard, watching my children play sports, walking my dogs, and reading. I love to exercise and enjoy watching college football.
